Lost Ark Valtan Guide For Gate 2 (All Important Mechanics + Cheat Sheet)

Valtan is the first Legion Raid in Lost Ark. Check our Valtan Guide overview for more Valtan guides, rewards, and an overview of the new armor sets. In this guide, we’ll cover Gate 2 of this Legion Raid: the actual fight against Valtan.

💡 How to use this guide?

This written Valtan guide should be used as a quick reference on your second monitor during and right before your raid. I’ll try to improve it (probably mostly by shortening less important parts) over the coming weeks.

I still recommend watching the video guides below first if you haven’t fought against Valtan yet. There is so much going on and the advantages of seeing the mechanics in action are high. I picked 3 excellent video guides for you below.

#2 Amor Destruction & Charge Attacks

There are 4 pillars with blue orbs on them. In this first phase of the fight your raid has two goals:

Destroy Valtans armor. You can see his two stacks of an armor buff under his health bar.

Valtan has to destroy all 4 pillars with his charge attack. By destroying pillars the blue orbs will fall down. Every player needs to collect one orb before Valtan reaches 130 health bars.

Where are the pillars? You can identify the pillars by the blue spots on your minimap. Stack with the whole raid in front of a pillar and only dodge Valtan’s attack at the last second. If Valtan charges into the pillar, he is knocked out for a few seconds and the blue orb is falling down.

What does the charge attack look like? Valtan is standing still and scratches the ground with his foot (like a bull, you know?) three times. Then he points a telegraphed attack at a random player and charges at him shortly after:

What to do after the charge? While Valtan is knocked out your raid needs to apply as much destruction as possible. Use Destruction Bombs and skills with destruction. Using one Corrosive Bomb by a dedicated raid member would help too. You have 4 charge attacks to clear both armor buffs. If you don’t succeed Valtan keeps his armor for the rest of the fight. If this happens, it is better to start the raid over.

If your raid is able to destroy one stack of the armor buff after the first pillar already, Valtan will jump to a random player and starts a whirlwind attack. Make sure that Valtan jumps right in front of the next pillar because you need him to destroy that pillar with his whirlwind attack.

Falling Axes: if Valtan jumps into the air he is throwing axes in the arena. Stay in motion and run in a small circle to avoid getting hit and try to avoid crossing paths with other players. After throwing 9 axes at each player Valtan is coming back. Hug the outer wall to avoid getting damage (indicated by a huge red telegraph).

#3 Blue Orbs Into Pizza Mechanic

At 130 health bars, the next phase begins. At some point, Valtan will raise his axe above his head and starts to charge himself up. A few seconds after he creates a pizza-shaped telegraph. You can see his posture and the telegraph in this screenshot:

If you get hit by this attack your buff from the blue orb you collected earlier is gone.

Immediately after this pizza-attack Valtan will start an attack that covers the whole area. If you do not have the blue orb anymore, you will die from this attack.

Safe Strategy: If your raid leader uses Balthorr before the first attack the raid gets a 50% damage reduction and can tank this mechanic. Since no player can revive in a Legion Raid, it’s a good and safe strategy to use Balthorr here.

#4 Pillar Mechanic

At 120 health bars Valtan jumps in the air with a short cutscene and 4 pillars will spawn. While away he will target a random player with a cone-shaped red telegraph that follows that player. All other players need to hide behind a pillar, indicated by a yellow telegraph covering the floor.

The targeted player needs to position the cone-shaped telegraph away from the other players. As soon as the telegraph stops following the player, he has to dash out and get behind a pillar as well.

After Valtan lands he will launch another telegraph at the same player:

Not targeted players don’t need to hide this time (no yellow telegraph).

The targeted player needs to dodge this attack the same way as before.

This time the telegraph is wider and will hit a pillar.

This pillar will explode, so don’t stand near it.

The other pillars will explode shortly after, so move to the pillar that exploded first quickly.

This mechanic will repeat in a similar way at around 85 and 30 health bars.

#5 Counter After Cutscene

With 65 health bars, Valtan jumps up again. All players should stack in one position. After Valtan lands in the center, he creates a void zone below every player. Stacking the whole raid in one position makes it easier to dodge this explosion.

Directly after this will be another cutscene. 3 seconds after this cutscene ends, Valtan tries to grab players. This attack is counterable, but Valtan doesn’t glow blue to indicate that. The whole raid should stand in front of him and use their counters 3 seconds after the cutscene ended.

#6 Portals

Multiple Portals will appear around the arena. Valtan will appear at one portal and run to another portal across the map. Try to avoid getting hit. You can fall off the platform if he runs into you.

#7 Ghost Phase

Valtan’s Ghost appears and you fight against his ghost. Periodically there are Ghosts at the border of the arena. Counter their attacks to avoid damage and to reduce the damage reduction Valtan has in his ghost form.

Don’t lose sight of Valtan while countering the ghosts at the border. He still has mighty attacks that can push you off the platform.
